Here is the fourth track on my upcoming EP, 'Tales Of A Twenty Something'.
This song was written after a dream I had (back in 2012) about an old love which brought up a variety of feelings, so I rolled over, half asleep, and noted down bits about the dream before I forgot. Upon waking up I wrote this song. Enjoy! X
lyrics
Lyrics:
In your own world, you can do anything,
And actions seem to have no consequences.
Well the sheep you spent ages trying to count,
Have all gone and jumped the fences.
And I know, oh I know,
This shouldn't be how it goes.
But I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a new one.
Well I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a move on.
I'll never know why, but I saw you again,
Here in my mind's better than not at all.
Running through a field with your arms around me,
Yeah I don't think we did that, as I recall.
We may not, have always been,
Innocent and totally pure.
But I'm sure we both had a good time,
When our clothes could be found on the floor.
And I know, yes I know,
This shouldn't be how it goes.
But I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a new one.
Well I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a move on.
It took a while before it came to my attention,
That I'd gained some of the control.
Allowed the scene to go further on before,
Reality could take it's toll.
No sooner had I thought this thought,
Your face had turned solemn and grey.
I tried to hold on, but as everyone knows,
We find dreams don't work that way.
And I know, yes I know,
This shouldn't be how it goes.
But I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a new one.
Well I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a move on.
And why sing this song that I sing?
I'm still not relieved from the sting.
Of the love that we wove,
Along the forks in the road.
You're the seemstress,
And I'm the ball of string.
And I know, yes I know,
This shouldn't be how it goes.
But I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a new one.
Well I'm told 'that's life',
So I guess I'd better get a move on.
